Its a significant improvment
Makes me feel a bit better with my score..which is actually good considering I do not overclock or anything....
P4 2.8C 800FSB

althought in most games the difference will be smaller.Quote:

in dx8 games, the ti4600 is usually even fatser than any radeon 9600, but your new cpu is faster, so the performance could be the same as before in dx8-games.
In the majority of casers a 9600 XT (or Pro for that matter) is faster (IMO not enough to warrant the purchase though - the R9800 Pro woudl have represented better value for money)than a Ti4600, even in DX8 applications.Quote:

but you see, that the difference is not big between the ti4600 and the r9800 in dx8 games, or would you call 3fps in ut2003 and 7fps in generals big? ok, in bf1942 the differenc is a little bigger, but this is only in this one dx8 game.
about the 9600xt: if i would have the time, i would be able to find enough benchmarks, where the 9600xt is slower than the ti4600. i dont know, which is better on average, but when you compare the normal 9600, it is slower than the ti4600 in most dx8-games. if i would have the time for it, i would search for benchmarks to prove what i posted.
i have seen one benchmark of the ti4600 in hl2 (or was it doom3?), where it had even better framrates than the r980 w/ the dx8-rendering-path. and the r9800 had more fps w/ the dx8-path than w/ all dx9-paths, probably because some details require dx9.
I didnt say the gap was particular big (indeed, if you'll look above you'll see i explicitly state the fact that the gap is small), however, it is a gap none the less.Quote:

It wont have been doom 3 as it doesnt have any direct X renders (its an Open GL game - though given Nvidia's Open GL strength and the somewhat 'remarkable' nature of the preliminary D3 benchmarks, i wouldnt be suprised to see the ti4600 beating the 9600XT) and in HL2, (pre-NV40) Nvidia cards are extremely performance limited (paticularly in the full DX9/SM2.0 path)Quote:

The speed of theTi4600 in HL2 DX8 path:
http://www4.tomshardware.com/busines...f-life-03.html
is equal to that of the R9600 Pro in the [B]DX9[B] path.
In that particular game its pointless making a comparison between the two cards DX8 performance, because the 9600XT owner can enjoy it in its full DX9 goodness at the same speed a Ti4600 user gets the Dx8 experience at.
As for using benchmarks ot prove a point, they were simply the first DX8 benchmarks i found, and the only one in which the ti4600 holds a speed advantage of any kind is in WC3: Frozen Throne, and even then its less than 1FPS.
