I've been running UD on a my old desktop here for about 8-9 months. I have joined the SysOpt team and hope that the points get transferred over to the running total.
I'll have to go and see what the desktop has been up to but at last look it was up to about 55,000 points and about 2,000 WU's.
I'll see if I can "hijack" another infrequently used machine here at the office for the UD program later.

Well, it doesn't look like the points, results transfer but you'll have another machine pluggin' away.
So far after nearly 2 days of continuous running UD Im running at around 120 degrees so im not too worried about overheating , I have 2 80mm case fans and 1 slot fan going . welcome to the team 3andout :D
Well, It looks like I will be unable to do this for a while. The 350 I put the client on ran two days and still said it was at 0%. When I ran SETI on this PC it did not work in windows but the command line version could do a SETI WU after 72 hours or more. This PC has problems. I hope to build a new one soon. When it is up, I will join the effort.

I thought for sure you were going to catch me, and then I started pulling away. What happened?
One of my work machines is almost never on, so that one isn't contributing diddly-squat, and then I had to disable another work machine for awhile because of completely separate network issues it was having. (Someone decided to use that machine to set up a wi-fi station, then changed their mind, and when they finished, it didn't have internet connectivity at all.)
I'm disappointed that so many people are working on the SETI project, but relatively few on a worthwhile project like the cancer/smallpox problem.

I haven't been doing much in the last few months on Ud as Ive been doing renovations on the house and have had to take my other computers offline as I am upgrading them ,the only one I've got is this one which does F@H , I do check the stats weekly and I too am suprised there aren't more people involved with UD , Seti is a waste of time IMO , hopefully I will be able to get the rest of my rigs back on-line soon

My max temp so far was only 36c running this. I added a port hole and tube that goes right from cpu fan to case side like I had on my p4 williamette 1.5giger. And the temps are dang near the same!:x
You didn't do anything wrong with set up, as you may have already discovered by now, you will switch between cancer and small pox or whatever other projects they have. Each new work job downloaded onto your computer seems to be pretty random to me. I'm sure there is some method to it though.
Welcome to the team. IMHO it's more worthwhile to mankind to work on this project as opposed to SETI.

I was going to install this DC project on my main machines, and leave the slower of the 4 running S@H.
My main question is... how hard is it to set it up on each machine? I've heard the setup is quite different than SETI.
I'll have my O/Ced Xp 1800 and my P4 1.6 GHz Willamette at work on it tomorrow if someone can answer me the above, and one more:
Is there a CLI for it? I have no mind for useless little graphics that only serve the purpose of entertaining the end user.
I wa a member of UD last year, but couldn't stand the abysmal GUI client. It infuriated me, and I can't remember if I was set-up on more than one machine anymore.
Any input is welcome, and for my SysOpt 2002 S@H teammates, I'm not leaving. It's just that I lost my grandfather at the beginning of May this year, and I am sick of the less-than-stellar progress we've made so far in cancer research and treatments.

I've installed and am currently running UD on my overclocked XP 1800. I'm also going to be installing it on my work PC as well.
I'll still have one machine cranking out 1 WU a day... just because SETI is still important, but cancer research is moreso to me these days :)
I'm not sure if anyone else reads this anymore, but my G/F and I have turned in 56 results in just over 2 weeks. Not bad I say!

I don't believe there is an official UD team for SysOpt anymore.
A few of us have teamed up at LoganTeamX to crunch a few for Cancer Rsearch.

This seems like a very good cause and I'm trying to sign up for this.
I have 3 PC's at home which are on most of the day
Can it be set up to run whichever user name is used or do I have to install it for each user?
On my daughters I am planning on having it running in the background so they don't have to know its there
Am at work at the moment, trying to install on my works PC but am having trouble with the proxy settings. In IE connections it has Proxy Server Address as "http://SERVER" and the port as "8080". The port must be entered correctly (I can't have got 8080 wrong). The instructions state you don't need the http:.
If I just put in "SERVER" it suggested that I have made an error but if add a "." it accepts it

I'm not sure how active the SysOpt team is nowadays... I'm not poaching or anything, but Team X is a sort of offshoot from SysOpt run by Logan. It's active, and the home page is here:

It all seems to have gone very quiet on the Sysopt team, even relatively new members appear to have 'retired' - or have they joined Team Logan (doesn't matter to me - just as long as the units get done)? Shame really - the team is now in the top 1600 point-wise.

One of the reasons I'm not participating is that my IT guy at work made me uninstall the program from the work computers. He was afraid that someone would be able to use a backdoor in the program to compromise organizational security.
Just installed this software - seems like a very worthwhile cause for little effort. Couple of questions?
1) I'm on a broadband package with limited monthlly downloads. If I leave it online whilest it's working, will it eat into my download limit, or does it only do that while I download new units?
2) Can I turn off my PC while it's part way through a unit, without losing the computing its done? Will it "pick up" where it left off?

1) there's not enough transmitted data to worry about (probably Megs per month, but nothing huge). Think of it as the pets you have under the table -- scraps of food, not meals.

Will it work faster if I allocate it more HD space? Getting 100 for processer, and 125 for memory, but only 20 for storage. Not too worried about earning points, but seems to be taking a long time working through first project? Up to 11 hours now, and still only half way through.
If you head on over to the forums at http://forum.grid.org/ there are some really good answers and info about what's going on at the moment.
But to answer your question, no it won't process faster with 10GB allocated as opposed to 1GB of hard drive space. The only thing that really affects process time is the data that it's working on (different work units take varying amounts of time) and the CPU you have.
I think the HD allocation is just to say how good your system is and how much space could the agent theoretically use to store data if needed. I've never known my UD folder to grow more than 5MB though.
If you opt to do the rosetta task then this one will use more resources like memory and HD space so if you're concerned about it slowing down your PC then you can tell it to run the cancer job only.
