Got rid of Norton and am using Microsoft Security Essentials. Also installed OpenOffice 3.1 and removed Mocrosoft Works 9.0. Very happy with it and gratefull to have a neighbor that really know computers. I'm learning alot from him, maybe too much for this brain housing group to cope with. Enjoying this blazing fast piece. :D

Did you have to do a second mortgage on the house to pay for it?

The thought did enter my head. :D
First of all, I upgraded the RAM and Vid card, the 750GB HD was a free upgrade. Stated it wrong in the spec's above.
$1099.00 with upgrades to the 9GB RAM @ $40.00 and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 @ $30.00 it came to $1170.00. I went with the i7-920 processor and 9GB of RAM to not have to worry about upgrading those for a while..................a long while I hope.

My how things have changed...I about the same amount for a new Dell PIII 1.0 gZH cpu.....
If you get bored with it cause you have so much free time on your hands cause you can compute so fast...just send that bad boy to me;)

The neighbor who knows computers and builds them put one together on Newegg.com matching the same parts and it was $400.00 more that what HP charged. :( Went with HP.

Its been that way for a long time...Theres a chance that the same machine at Dell would be less then HP;)

HP is a big player and can leverage some suppliers. I did not in the past care for all the extra bloatware they had installed. Things have changed a good bit though, now the bloatware is better quality and actually accomplishes the intended purpose now and again and the hard drives are such monsters that the amount doesn't really mean much. (Except in Principal)
I used to say "HP as a printer company makes a great Printer! HP as a computer company makes a great Printer too!" Well that was then and just last month I replaced my old Gateway P III Laptop with a spanking new HP.
I got a DV7-3060US whatever that means, also Win 7-64, a 500 Gig 7200 RPM HD, a 2.4 Turion II M-600 CPU, (Works better than my work Core two Duo) and it has ATI 4530 Mobility 512 Video. I have not removed the bloatware as it doesn't seem to bother anything.
HP seems to have improved their quality and their attitude.
