Sudden system power off - power light still on

I recently just put a new computer together. It seems to have been fine for about a week or so but just now I heard it power down completely.

BUT the power LED was still on and it was not responding to the power switch.

I have been questioning my power supply. Does this sound like a power supply issue?

Possibly . Could be a power management shutdown or the power supply gone bad or the mobo.
I would test with another psu if you have one. You could check it with a DVM or one of these
