Some of these setting's really helped me out alot, even with the system I have I did find it some what taxing, so I ended up doing some tweaking and it really helped. Hope it helps you guys out some to.

Biggest tweak i could give to anyone who hasnt starte dplayng yet woudl be to update using the recently release patch, it fixes a lot of gameplay, balancing and performance bugs (infortunatley though it makes all savegames from the original release unplayable, hence should be avoided if your already some distance into the game).
Also, those playing on Vista with Nvidia graphics hardware, the latest ForceWare for Vista help improve performance quite a bit
