    CRT vs LCD/TFT

Hi, sorry if this has been done to death already!

I want to buy a new monitor and am very tempted by TFT screens.

Are they good enough for game playing?? Is the refresh rate fast enough or is there "ghosting" or lag on a moving image??

Is a similar price (or even budget) CRT a better buy in terms of quality still??

Any comparisons or experience of a particular screen would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Personally - I would get CRT over LCD at any time, not talking about prices - I can get 19" CRT by price of only 15" TFT

    Hi matthew6,

Check out my reply to a post started by dna_level_c7 titled LCD.

A few more comments for your situation......

IMHO if you've got ~$1000 to spend on a large (17 inch or greater) high quality LCD display then go for it. They do have advantages over CRT technology.

Now on the other hand if you only have a several hundred dollars to spend I would go for a high quality 19 inch CRT as ND suggested instead of a smaller LCD display. There is no substitute for size!!!

    Regards,

    JeffD

Intensive graphics on LCD's have not matured yet. LCD is good for most applications. I'd like to get one for the 2d clarity. THIS website has a good comparison of some LCD's. Pixel speed is the metric you want to keep your eye on.
