    Overclocking Athlon 1700XP

I have an Athlon Xp 1700+
    With a MSI K7T266 Pro 2 motherbaord
    Voodoo 3500
    256 DDR Ram (Crucial RAM)

I have currently got it clocked to a 1900Xp+

145 Fsb with a voltage core of 1.825

Its running stable and has passed benchmarks and burn in tests.

Would it be wise to clock it to 2000XP+ ?

Can it go furthur than that ?

Heat sink and fan can take upto 2 GhZ.

    Temperatures well within safety levels.

    Any ideas? Sugestions ?

    Thanxs

    Andy

You could try putting the FSB up more but it may make ur system become unstable. The Core voltage would probably need uping too. Be careful and make sure your cooling is suitable. You don't want a dead CPU do ya!

The overclocking ability of a CPU depends on many different aspects, what version of the cpu it is, build quality, cooling, motherboard etc..... You just have to try and see what happens. In the end it is up to you if you want to push it that far. It may work, it may crash or it might go BOOM!!

    Be careful

You can push it to XP2000 (1.66ghz). You'll know whether or not it likes that setting pretty quickly. Mine 1600 will boot windows at 2000 but it is really unstable. It likes 1900 better.

If you're looking for a performance increase, I suggest you upgrade your video card. A V3 just doesn't cut it any more! Look into getting a Geforce 3 Ti200. It will make your games like at least 4X faster, depending on how complex the game is.

    K, Thanks.

Anyone got a good guide to unlocking the athlon xp?

    The L1 bridges?

I heard something about glue ?

Also anyone got the adequate operating temperatures of a Athlon XP?

Getting conflicting temps off of different websites ?
I have a 1700XP clocked to 1900 and the highest temperature is about 47 under full load, or if been on for about 10 hours!

    Thanks!!

    Alright mate,

Check out Tom's Hardware Guide, they've got a 10mb video you can download which show's you exactly how to do it. It's very detailed, but looks a little too "Hands on" for me.

I'd be quite interested in knowing how you get on - Im gettin the same processor in about a month and I'm plannin how to overclock it. If you don't mind, drop me a note tellin me what cooling you got and how your o/c ing goes!

Got myself an XP1700+ recently as well. Managed to o/c it up to 1716Ghz (156*11) with all the aggressive settings/timings in the BIOS. I think I'll keep it locked. Don't want to spend another AU$269 on a new cpu

If you want more details, have a looky:
    http://www.sysopt.com/cgi-bin/ocdata...go=1&k=Piccolo

Temperatures hit a maximum of 51c with the case closed and having two case fans (one intake, the other one expelling air out) running Seti@home practically 24/7.

    Cool,

    Any problems with Windows ?

Anyone Else got a MSI K7t266 Pro 2 Mobo ?

I have a lower bios version to what is out, and have my computer clocked to a 1900 XP+,

the newest version out, off of the website, wil let me change the settings but windows won't load.

I had to reset the cmos last time with the jumper, and put the lower ver bios back on?

    anyone any ideas, commments etc?

Trying to keep this Athlon XP O/C thread going.

    What??

Why do you need to change the bios version? Will another bios version let you have different fsb speed/voltages?

I have the same Mobo (MSI K7T266 Pro2 Ru) and with the newest version of the bios, windows seems to be unstable when overclocking. When reverting to the older version of the BIOS the windows problems go away. Strange i know but true.

I've had my 1700XP at 1900XP with old bios but new bios just crashes all the time and i had to clear the cmos. My 1700 at 1800 with the new bios is ok though.

It has gone up to 160*11 (1760Ghz) again with all the aggressive timings and is able to run 3DMark2000 and SiSoft Burning-In Wizard and SiSoft's benchmarks for half an hour but I get this weird "Illegal operation" when I try to access any of my folders from my C:\ using Windows Explorer. So I guess at that speed, it's not stable.

    Ehh...1716Ghz is plenty for me.
