cpu overheating

hello,

Well i just built my first system and the last thing on my mind was that I would be overheating.

I just ran a system monitor.

I am running an amd athlon at 1400mhz. With a spreeze heatsink fan and another fan in front of the case and an onboard fan too.

The test came back with my cpu temp at 51c.
I was reading in the forums and that seems too hot, I was also having some problems, because I set my computer to reboot when it reached a certain temperature. So I just set my cpu speed down to 1000mhz and now the system is running at 45.0c with the core at +1.76v. What is the core?

Does anyone have any suggestions, I think I am gonna get a better cpu fan to start off with?

I have a soyo k7ada motherboard.

I sthere any space in your case for an extra fan at the rear, as that would realy help.

51C is defintly NOT to hot for a t-bird 1400

they melt around 90C. I like to keep it under 60C

so you really dont have a problem

Has anyone used that arctic silver stuff...

well i am underclocking now at 1040mhz until i get a better heatsink fan.

let me know what you think i should do

Definitely get a better HSF. Looks like those Speeze are rated not much better than a factory AMD HSF. A lot of people swear by the Glaciator. I've never used it. My Athlons have an SK6 on a 1400, and a TI-V77 on a 1333. Both moderately priced. The SK6 has the Delta fan, so it's a noisy one. The Dr Thermal has it's own fan and not noisy at all (compared to the rest of my machines, anyway).

Others to consider:
MC-462A (pricey, I think)
PAL 8045

And definitely get some AS2. If you're using that thermal pad, that's part of the problem. Not good for heat transfer, but it's cheap.

FYI, the Volcano ranks about the same as the Speeze.

I have a 900mhz athlon and my temperature range usually goes between the 45-51 range, even after a fan/heatsink change. So 50 some degrees is really not a big problem with athlon t-birds???

Godfodda how loud are the delta fans? I think my current fan runs at 31 ....(forgot the abreviations for noise level of fans)

Well for a t-bird 900mhz that is a bit warm

But a t-bid 1.2-14 that is pretty normal.

Howdy,

You can cruise on over to www.coolerguys.com and pick up either a Vantec CCK-6035D or a Thermalright SK-6 at reasonable prices. They are both copper based units and are both recommended for the faster processors.

I too have a 1.4GHz T-Bird 266FSB and that puppy runs hot.

Oh and get yourself another case fan to install in the back of the computer. Make sure it's sucking hot air out and the one in the front is blowing fresh air in.

Are you sure the temp. monitor is functioning properly?Have you checked the bios to compare.The bios reading is always the one to gauge your temp monitor to.It is a direct reading from the sensor.My asus probe was way wrong compared to bios.Ran another brand temp. monitor and now all reads properly.Try a third party temp. prog just to be sure.I heard via hardware monitor has the same prob. some times.Is it a Via Chipset board?It should be so this is posible to be your prob. and you arent overheating at all.
