geforce 2 won't turn monitor off?

    HI,

I've just bought a Chaintech Geforce 2 64Mb video card. After having installed the card and got latest drivers for it from Nvidia, everything works fine except that my monitor will not go off properly as set-up in my display properties. The screen blanks but does not actually turn off my monitor.

I wonder if there is a fix for it, as I often leave my PC on and let the monitor go off. The last card I had was an ATI rage magnum, this worked fine(although there was a windows 2000 driver update for this feature)

    I have a P3 800MHz(100MHz fsb), 256Mb ram and am running Windows 2000 Pro.
    Many thanks,

    Mazz

Make sure you're using the proper monitor driver. It is often reset to default during an adapter change.

My monitor is an NEC XP17, and this is what is says in the display properties. Maybe I should re-do the monitor driver bit, it might then work.

    Cheers,

Have you looked in the Control Panel > Power Options? See if your monitor is still set to go off.

Yeah the monitor is set to go off after 5minutes. Screen goes blank, but doesn't fully turn off, just goes into a blank screen standby mode. When it used to go off properly, it would click and you'd here the HT go off.

Maybe it's a win2000 problem. When I had my ATI card and was running win98 it was no problem, as soon as I upgraded to 2000 same thing would happen. On viewing the latest ATI drivers, it mentioned a new fix for monitor off in win2000. Maybe Nvidia haven't addressed this problem yet in their 2000 drivers.......???????

    regards,

Perhaps. Windows 2000 is not exactly "new stuff" though.

Have you tried this with the MS WDM drivers?

Windows 2000 should have drivers for the MX included. You may also be able to use Windows Update to obtain them. MS=Microsoft and WDM=Windows Driver Model. I may be wrong, but open display Properties and go to the Settings tab. Click on Advanced and then the Adapter tab. Click Update Driver. Click Select from a list and then Next. You may see more than one. You want the one where the supplier is Microsoft. It should have the earlier date too.

Windows Update should have them too.
