Strange Problem With IE6
I have Windows XP and with IE6. On many pages I get a small square with the letter i inside and an error message outside saying " The page cannot be displayed" however the page is displayed in a normal manner. I used Opera Browser and did not have problem. This indicates the problem is in IE6. I set security off in Browser but didn't help. Sometimes a page will have menus on the side that isn't displayed, just an error message "This page cannot be displayed" Any help much appreciated.

Try to repair IE6 - go to
start
settings
controll pannel
add remove programs
double click on IE6
You will then get a pop up box with the option to repair IE6 tick this, let it repair then reboot and try again.
Hope this works - it did for me.

Dave

Thanks Dave for your response. I tried your method but dont get the popup menu . I go to add/remove then click on ad/remove Windows programs on the left of main page. when I double click IE6 nothing happens except a message saying this removes access to IE from Start menu etc. Do you have Windows XP? Thanks for responding and if you can think of anything else please post and I will try anything to get rid of the annoying problem I have.

It sounds as if your problem is that you are surfing sights that have pop-up windows. The main page of that sight is being displayed however when the pop-ups start to appear you get the error for that window and not for the main page. Are you using some form of Pop-up inhibitor? I know I do, in fact i can't live without it. I use Pop-Up Stopper personally and it has both a visual and sound indicator that it just caught and closed a popup window. If you do not have one installed and have made no adjustments to your security browser settings is your software up to date?

Thanks Tuqan, I once had Popup Killer but removed it. There might be some trace of it remaining, I will search for it. Your explanation sounds very logical. My software should be up to date. I purchased computer in Dec 2001. I don't have the problem when using Opera Browser. Thanks again.

IE 6 problem
I run windows 98 and downloaded ie6 from the net. When I
have a problem, I go to:
my computer, c:, windows, update windows setup files and open
ie6 setup. With acces to the net, you can reinstall ie6 fairly quickly
choosing the files you want -- browser, enhancer, etc. It will tell
you that you don't need to install but just do it anyway. So far, I
haven't had any problems with this update method and it always
seems to work better afterward.
