I'd skip fujitsu and samsung if your thinking ibm then the 60gxp's are good then maxtor at the bottom personally have been using western for around 4years.

hmm so your saying western digital and seagate are pretty good?

i haven't had probs with hearing noise from my seagate.. i like wd a lot.. i never heard of anyone mentioning getting 2 hdd's of the same brand if you add more ;o

does it make a big difference?

Having worked in a tech shop for about year a while ago, I can say with a certain degree of certainty that I will never purchase a Seagate or WD. I've just seen too many of these fail out of the box, and they rarely live long past their warranty. Now whether this is reflective of absolute reality or just my experiential perspective I leave to you. I'm just not going to buy these brands.

I've got five Maxtors, the first of which has been running stong since 1992... li'l 150 MB beauty from my 486 25 MHz I use strictly to play Ultima VII now, but it still works. The others are just as rock solid, with not one bad bit between all of them. When putting together PC's for friends I always go with Maxtor.

wallijohn is correct. They are loud as ****, but I rarely run my box open. One really bad down-side is that they refuse to run UDMA when the FSB is OC'd. I tried and tried and tried again, and I can't get it to do it. Has this changed with the intro of ATA-100? I'm still running a couple ATA-66's over here.
