SiS 530 on board vid card

hey, i was wondering if i should get a new mobo, because my sis 530 on board vid card cant be disabled, i tried everything i could, i went into bios, and disable like everything, i also went into device manager, and i removed the SiS 530, that didnt work, and i dont have any jumpers connected to it. i bought a geforce 2 64 mb, card, and it wont work, cuz the sis 530 needs to be disabled, so i was wondering if i should just get a new mobo, or if there is a solution to disabling that card. ???

I'm not sure about your motherboard, but usually when a display card is added to the system, it will run a query until it finds the monitor.

Didn't we go through this already in your last 2 or 3 posts?:???
If I remember correctly, you have a pc chips board. The on board video should either disable automatically upon adding your pci video card, or you may have to disable your agp on board video in the bios. There would be a choice for swapping agp graphics for pci graghics or some similar choice.
Peter Missel is a pc chips expert. I hope he sees this post and can add something to it.
Otherwise, posting the same thread on multiple forums is not the way to go!

    good point frank

i know this seems like the same thread, but in this one im asking if i should just go and buy a new mobo, cuz this time i dont wanna know how to fix it, but, if it can be fixed, cuz i read somewhere that i couldnt be disabled. i decided to do it under a different catagory, cuz this is more about the mobo, than video cards, and cuz no one else was replying to the other one. but thanks for replying, and i do hope that one guy sees this.

The SiS 530 VGA doesn't disable, and doesn't need to. It coexists with PCI VGAs, so you can run dual head if you want to.

Choose in BIOS (on the PCI/PnP page) whether you want the integrated AGP VGA or the PCI addon to become the primary display. That's all.

aight, i went back into bios, and into pci/plug and play, and i looked at all the options, one was pci vga palette snoop, and this was disabled, and there was also a thing called assign IRQ for VGA, and this said yes, and another one was primary graphics adapter which was pci. so, if any of this can let yall help me out, that would be great. peace

With these settings, you should get the POST screen and initial OS boot sequence onto the PCI card. If you don't, then this means that the _card's_ BIOS isn't multi display capable - which is quite an embarassing omission for a 2002 product :/ I'd get a different card if I were you.

i think i know what the main problem is now. everytime that i put the geforce 2 into the slot, without the monitor cord in it (the cord is still in the sis on board card), the computer wont start, which would mean that the computer can never detect the geforce's existants, which is why there is no option for some sort of connection between the 2. tell me if im wrong, and if im not, then, i might be screwed 8(

I have a P5SS-Me mainboard also with an integrated SiS 530 graphics chip and had the same problem with not being able to disable it with a jumper on the board or the BIOS, to install my new Inno3D Tornado TNT2 PCI board.
I found the graphics could co-exist if in the BIOS under the integrated periperals option you make sure the Init Display First is set to PCI slot.
I bought the card for some new games my son got for his birthday, but it does not seem that stable and just hangs now and then, so the card is out for the moment.

What happens when you disable the SIS on board video in device manager?

I have not tried that yet but will give it a go on Monday.
I was under a lot of pressure to get the PC up and running again so the board is out at the moment.
Will post a reply next week.
    Thanks,
    Russell

    Good suggestion, it worked!
I am now using my new graphics card and have had no crashes or lock ups.
    Thanks a lot,

    Russell
