Zip Drive fails on transfer
Hey all.. i am having some trouble with a computer i have. The computer has a zip drive in it that freezes the computer up when transfering files to it. Any file larger than 10mb causes it to freeze when displaying 5 seconds left.. i have watched the light on the drive and it does not seem to be transfering the data. On this computer there is also a cdrw and a dvd and a 60gb hd. I have switched all devices to different setting's .. ie primary master to primary slave and so on with secondary's. I can successfully burn an entire cd and watch dvd's just fine. I have reinstalled Win ME system on this computer with no luck also. I have tested two different zip drives on this computer and these drives do work on other systems. Any ideas out there of what else i should try to get this to work. I believe i do have DMA enabled.. would this have any effect on a zip drive .. i wouldnt think so. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

are you using window's removable disk driver or an iomega driver for the drive specifically? that would be something to look into

Maybe something running in the background is not compatable with this process, disable all apps see if that makes a difference even screensavers as well.

Which motherboard are you using?
I've been having the same trouble as you, on some Iwill KK266's.

Iomega has a beta patch for slow performance/hang with 686B motherboards, I'm getting ready to try it out, I'll report back.

UPDATE!!!

Sorry, it turns out that the Iomega patch is just an older VIA Bus Master driver, ver. 3.01.1
I've been choosing to NOT install the VIA ATAPI driver when I run the 4in1 driver install program, due to reading that some folks believe the standard MS drivers do a better job. Well, it seems that the VIA driver will fix the Zip drive problem. I still wonder if you have a VIA chipset mobo?
