Is there such a thing as a "gameshell"

I have XP and it is fast but somtimes I just want to crank up the grax on unreal and get down and dirty so I am just wondering if there is such a thing as a "game shell"...it just loads the nessesities(or different config I could probebly change on the fly to suit my needs)...

I am hoping this might free up some CPU pwer and give ti back in the form of FPS

I thought the whole point to the DirectX drivers was so you did not have to scale down the operating system. Other gamers have had sluggish response time with XP. You might have to build another partition on your harddrive and put Win98 or Win2000 on it for the gaming.

No, the problem is NOT that it is slow under typcal resolutions (1024 x 768) as a matter of fact I am doing flipps over XP speed vs ME btu my computer is not, let say" top of the line"

I just think if I could get some **** that boots up with XP to stop from running I might be able to get just a little more out of it so I could crank up grax.

I have killed some of the components (ie..sys agent, taskmgr, con mgr) btru it seems to be a bit more unstable
