Get a new video card... I had an ATI xpert98 (Rage XL chipset) and 3dmark wouldn't even run...

    I bought a Gainward Geforce3 ti200 for $172 and now i get 6953 marks :]

He's right, you will need a new vid card. Nvidia is just releasing details on it's G4 cards so if you can hang on a couple of months you will save yourself a few bucks and get that G3 real cheap.

yea it is the vid card, and make sure you get good drivers when you get a vid card. i ran 3dmark 2k1 with my standard drivers (64meg Geforce mx400) and it make a 4k score diff, 1276-5159

Nothing really. It's just if you want ahigh benchmark you will need to keep buying the latest vid cards to keep up.

The best rule of thumb is, does it give you what you want, eg good gaming. If yes keep it until you see someone else with a better setup that you wish you had.

If your not happy with what your current card delivers, then that is the time to upgrade. But really, if you get a good year out of the card before upgrading, that's not too bad. Longer than that you won't keep up with the benchmark johnies.

Also, if you put all your settings on low, run at 640x480, you will get a much higher benchmark, and thats what some people do.

But what I don't get is that ppeople with the same RAM and processor and same vid card and same OS they are getting higher scores than me? About 100-500 more points.

Also I've had this card for about 1 year and a half. So I think its about time for an upgrade.
