Can't get Cablemodem to work with XP
Heres the scoop...I had my cablemodem working fine and then I put in another nic so I could connect another computer. WhenI did and setup the tcp/ip and ran the small home network it knocked out my cable modem ettings. I can't do anything. I removed the other NIC (USB) and tried to reconnect my modem to the settings I know are right (there aren't any, its roadrunner) It gives me an ip but it wont renew the ip and when try to surf it doesn't do anything.
I don't have the system restore turned on so I cant go back to previous dates and I have removed the nic from XP in safe mode but I still can't get it to work. It must keep them in the reg or something cause everytime I start a new connection it says like LAN CONNECTION 1, 2,3 ,4 ,5 etc...
HELP PLEASE

Did you try removing those other lans? After removing them run the internet setup again and skip setting up a network see what that does also in IE you can run setup from there in internet options/connection tab in case IE got changed also make sure there are no proxy settings enabled. In the future put the nic in the other machine and get a cable/dsl modem router which is made to specifically share your cable service, linksys makes a good one and smc makes a cheaper one.

i would try removing the other network connections that its picking up then pop in your xp cd and have it automatically detect and setup your 2 nic's .. thats the easiest way o_O
