    is 3d mark...

THAT important to some people? I swear, I know this guy who brag about his 3dmark score at least once a week. I am so sick of it.

I don't think the world revolves around mad onion, just my 2 cents.
I am a dark knight in the brightness,
Where I am exclusive and matchless.
I am a convict without restraint,
Where my sin is but a faint.
    I am a loveless entity,
    Who`ve lost his identity.

Who may I ask in this frigid night?
To show me directions during the day?
Nay, I say while I endure the nights of loneliness,
For the world is thus icy, cold and merciless.
And for those who can not see me as opacity,
Silent screams emerge from my agony.

3D-Mark is sort of like a drag strip for computer enthusiest. Just like the old days of building up a Camaro or Mustang and going out on Sat. night and drag racing. The little tweaks you spent all day on...are finally spent on the track or a Sat. night. Now it's computers. A tweak here and a tweak there. Now lets see it run 3D-Mark and see if they worked and if so am I the fastest around. It's the 1/4 mile for PC's.

sorry if I offended anyone, but I know a guy who does it every ****ing day of his life and brags about it. Speaking of life, he doesn't have one.

The benchmark is the only way to compare video cards across different models and different vendors. The speed of the cards does not dictate how the card with perform. So the benchmark programs, like 3DMark2001, is important to understand.

Bottom line is, if you are happy with what you got, it really doesn't matter what the score is.

I will make changes to my system and then run a test to see if it made a difference.

By the way, my scores reached 5747 the other day. With an older chipset driver, my scores were 5223. So I had a possitive increase in performance by making a change to my system.

As far as bragging rights go, I like to compare my card to another member's card of the same type. If we are not getting close to the same score, then I would be wondering if the vendor sold me a lemon.

No offense taken here. Measuring every day and bragging about it will go old after awhile. He must be extremely happy with his scores.

It is the best way to compare overall game play ability on any system. It tries to use real game engine instead of just running some optimized code in a synthetic bench(lets not go there right now).So this will allow one to know how tweaks or system changes like upgrades will effect the pc for current games and the ones to come. For example I just got my new P4 parts the other day in the mail, and got right to the grind stone.I couldnt wait to see the bench difference. We all know media hype of P4 is way out of hand.I wanted to see real life comparison to my old P3-600mhz system. And I had a way to really see the difference by useing the bench. How this for results-not the best mind you but I am happy!!!
    1st system- P3 600/100fsb
    DFI via apollo pro motherboard
256 mb pc 133 non ecc pny ram on one stick
    Maxtor 30 gig hd ata 100 (udma5)
    16x/40x pacific digital dvd-rom udma2
    SoundBlaster Live 5.1 mp3+
    VisionTek Geforce3(yeah baby)
U.S. robotics 56K sportster external modem
    View Sonic 19" monitor
Two front speakers-Sony Sava sound system
    Two rear speakers-Labtec Spin-60

    3d2001 score 1900-3000 (worst/best)

    2nd system-P4 1.5 gig socket 478/400 fsb
    Asus P4t-E motherboard
    256mb pc800 rdram non ecc
All the rest is the same(this shows the performance gain of the P4 chipset&ram over P3)

    3d2001 score 6500-7500 (worst/best)

WOW!!! What a difference. There are no tweaks being used on P4 system-just fresh install of Win ME and drivers. And I never overclock. This is a great example of what 3d mark is used for.

    PEACE.
