GTU causing probs w/ 3DMark2001
i recently put GeForce Tweak Utility on my 1.4TB system to OC my GF2Ultra a little. since I put it on, 3dmark2k1 has some blurred 2D text and some background objects appear in the foreground where they used to be blocked from view. I reinstalled 3dmark, 21.83 drivers, and the old winfast winfox1.0(GF utility) with no change in results. funny thing is, the default benchmarks are higher than ever (w/official drivers and no overclocking) @4490 w/ windows2K, but I dunno if my benchmarks are still accurate. any ideas as to what is causing this?
Don't use the GTU. Or at least no until you fully understand all the values you're changing. I screwed my setup few times too with that one, and since then I'm only using RivaTuner for disabling VSync in D3D/OpenGL
Best Regards ...
yeah GTU is allows little more tweaking than I know what to do with (for now). I guess GTU changed settings that my OEM utility doesn't deal with so they stayed screwed up.
The last time I got my settings messed up with GTU, I ended up rebuilding my system from a formatted hard drive. Apparently some of the settings would not go back to their defaults. I couldn't find where on disk or in the registry the values were being stored.
However, you will get lower scores when you turn on more of the good features of the graphics card. Anisotripoc filtering and anti-aliasing are two that will give better image quality at a cost to performance. Also, if vsync is on, you will artificially limit the fps to max of your refresh rate.
The benchmark is a good way to understand how much performance cost there is for each feature. I've seen some pretty high scores published, but you would be turning off all the features that makes the graphics card worth having.
it's been a while since I fixed it, but the real cause were the "official" 21.83 drivers, not GTU. I 'm now runnig 23.11 w/GTU and have had great results. changing GTU settings one at a time (starting from a fast default) has painstakingly pushed my system to its limit...for now...time for more memory cooling mods .
