Why is the perofrmance so low, sometimes?

    Hi

I have a Geforce2 GTS cards and was using reference drivers. Version 14.70. My 3DMARKS 2001 score was around 3300. I downloaded the new detonator XP drivers and tried it. Version 22.40. My 3dmarks score went up to around 3590. I was happy but once i played games such as counter-strike i could see that the movements were not as smooth any more. I tried other games and the same problem, everything was much less smoother, but in 3dmark the performance was much better. Whats happening? Can someone help me out? I really appreciate it.

    Thanks

Hi there. Did you try using the official drivers from nvidia.com?

People are always worried about the 3dmark scores, and as you have experienced, performance doesn't always = quality. Have you tried using Geforce tweakutility? You can also try the 21.83 WHQL drivers and see if they make a difference. I try all the drivers and when one gets a really good score, I'll use the tweak utility to get the quality that I like. If you aren't happy with the drivers you have, revert back to ones you are happy with and don't concern yourself over the scores.

    22.xx ... leave well alone!!

The 22.xx drivers are BETA and give very poor performance on GF2 cards ... in fact the 22.80 driver messes up DirectDraw layers and causes some hilarious side-effects in the Dragothic test!

See the Dragon rider float in front of the dragon! Watch as the Dragon vanishes and reappears!

The 21.83 driver is the last fully stable driver released ... although I am very curious that the nvmini2 file has vanished - this means that secondary displays (2nd Monitor or TV out) cannot be used
