    Hey ya' all,
I just built a system and put win98 in it.
It run great untill I do something like drag an icon across the screen. It leaves little dots untill I refresh it.

Actually, you might have a driver issue with the vid card leaving what are called artifacts. You should be able to search on the video card manufacturers web site and get the latest drivers, then install the latest DirectX and it should take care of it.

    Hi!

    Are you overclocking your card?
If you exaggerate with clock adjustments such corrupted screen may be the result.
    Is the system generally stable?

    Well I still don't know....
I am not overclocked and every thing else is fine.
I have an Abit with onboard video mobo.
    no conflicts.
    any other suggestions?

Something similar happens to one of my video cards...when you drag something or scroll up/down it leaves spots or shadows on the screen...

I figured out it was the memory of the video card. It was bad.

Probably that's your case....but first try what others suggested, newer drivers, DirectX, etc....

Yea I thought it might be the video so I painfully went thru the format and re install the OS.
    It worked .......
I fooled around with it and found out that overclocking does it and untill I put the "fail safe default s" it wouldn't go away, even when I changed the multiplier back.
    Learn something every day....
    Thanks everyone for the help.
