DirectX for win2k

I need to install a earlier version of DirectX. I had DX8a installed but i'm looking for 6 or 7 anyone know where i can download it?

unless your running windows 95 or maybe 95a, i doubt that windows will let you copy an older directx on top of a newer version.

on a side note: if you install a beta version of directx 8 and it tells you to upgrade direct draw or another directx component, there's only one sulution. REINSTALL WINDOWS

I have already uninstalled DX8a...so maybe it could work? Beacuse i wont be installing it on top of another version. Right now in DX tools under DX version it says "Not found"

well you won't damage anything if you install DX8a. DX8a is just a compilation of all the previous DX's.

Just make sure it's not DX8.1 cause that'll give you all kinds of trouble.

I already have a DXuninstaller. The thing is that i'm looking for a earlier version of DX to see if some of my devices will work better i got DX8a on my desktop but will only install it again if i can't find v.7.

After I installed DX8a my comp runned little slower (small freezes) so thats why i uninstalled it. I want to get back the default version that was installed with the CD. hmmm maybe i can extract it somehow from the cd?

There is a Beta 9.0 that i might try if i can't find any version below 8.0

I was on my way to reformat the harddrive, it was close.. but no need now. . Woho

Thx, phugh..it was a close call i was on my way to reformat the harddrive.

Well you see I had already removed DX8a and i was looking for 7 or 6. To make a long story short. I couldn't find any working links on the net with DX7 and i couldn't extract dx7 from the cd, so i reinstalled the only one i had DX8a and BINGO system works fine now (might have been some screwed up drivers before).

Anyway i'm considering to move my 'old'capture card to my second system win98. it works much better with win98. After a few BSOD's (Blue screen of death) i have decided to play it safe until i get a better capture card for win2k.

ahhhh, that's what was so unclear to me. i thought that you still had dx8a installed and you wanted to down grade to dx7 or 6.

it also slipped my mind that i have lots of directx version on my old gameing installer . dx6- dx8. sorry about that ...

anyway i'm glad you got your rig up and running again .

if you ever need the older dx, you know where you can find it

Woho..I found a working download for DX7 for win2k i have safely backed it up, it might come in hand for future DX adventours LOL
