anyone have any success with wireless between buildings?

Just wondering if anyone has had any success with wireless between buildings. If so what brand did you use, how far did you go and how much speed did you lose?

yes; Cisco wireless bridge with directional antenna on one end & an omni-directional on the other; about 2~3 miles; throughput about ~5mb/s

Here's one of many earlier threads on the subject... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthre...threadid=61969

Do a SEARCH for "wireless" on this forum for other threads

Cost will vary depending on the situation. You can get a Cisco 340 Bridge for about 1200-1500 bucks each. The heavy cost are associated with towers if you need them. How far are the links. If they are line of sight and within range for curvature of the earth issues, you may not have to have a tower or mast at all. There are some things to be concerned about with PtoP links if you are talking about distance. Fade margin, Freznell zone issues, etc...... but if they are close then its pretty easy. In this scenario, the cost beyond the bridge is not that great. With current firmware update and the proper signal strength (ie. properly engineered) you should be able to get the maximum throughput these devices will allow, roughly 6 to 6.5 Mbps. If it is a simple point to point, two directional antennas is what you want. If it is a multipoint or you have the potential for adding more bridges down the road, then you would probably want to go with an omni at the parent site. Check my email and let me know if you want some pricing or a quote.
