remeber causticVapor, that if you have a Geforece 4 based card, the overclocking potential is not limited by heat.. it is actually voltage that gives you the not so high overclock... sure, you may be able to hit 350 MHz on air.. but using a peltier, may only get you 10 more MHz if you're lucky... the NV25 need Volt modding, and i suspect the R300's do aswell.
can some 1 give me an idea of what Id likley get w/ this system im buildin?
2.4 oc i hope to 2.7
golden sample 128 mb to 300+ core and whatever is high memory(i dont really know mem. speeds 4 video cards)
wd 40 gig 8 mb
256mb pc2700
probly the albatron 845pe board.
thnx 4 any ideas.

mmmm... I've considered it, but held back b/c I'm a bit leery on that kind of stuff... my soldering equipment is really old and doesn't have the precision necessary to make a fine solder on one of the VRAM pins f/i.... sure cooling only helps to a certain extent before voltage must be upped... too bad my mobo doesn't have that little jumper to up the AGP voltage
It makes sense that a .15-um core needs more voltage in order to achieve higher frequencies due to longer gate length etc... but...
I'm satisfied though My card went from cooking to lukewarm and that's what really matters
You can do it with blunt soldering irons, just you need pure copper wire (single strand) and shrink wrap to go over the wires. then you need precision potentiometres. To solder with a large soldering iron, heat only the wire, do not touch the IC legs... you would need a VERRY high wattage soldering iron to achieve this, as you need the wire to get up to solder melting temps, all the way down to the tip.. i have done it before, but theni bought an "el cheapo" soldering iron ($30 AU) with a super fine tip... 25watt, does the job well i must admit!

Stock (no overclocking on anything), CD released Drivers for the Radeon. Nothing shut off, still had at least 10 programs running in the taskbar. (this isn't my machine, but my Fiance's sisters). I installed 3dmark 2k1 SE and just ran it. It also ran at 60Hz? I knew the Geforce drivers had problems with that but I wasn't aware that ATI had the same problems.
nice score.. anything Vmodded yet?.. also NOHTO, any idea on the temp of your R300? I know that the GF4 ti4600 i have going with an 80w pelt is below room temp.. so obviously it will need the vmodding soon, as it OCs about only as good as air! (extra 5 MHz with peltier )
Also, how does the R300 scale with a peltier? is it worth it with out modding it?
sorry about all the questions, just i am curious, as no-one i know has had the ghuts to cool a radeon like that.
oh... by the way, I am awaiting my new T-Bred 1700+ AUIGA CPU.. heard they hit 2GHz on air... well.. i have air and plenty of it.. (hope my V7+ can cope!) and my KT133a board will do 173MHz at the CPU, so (RAM at 145MHz - wont go higher, no matter what timings.. will do 145 @ most agressive)... i'l see if i can get the fastest SDRAM Athlon around! (with GF4 Ti4200 ofcourse!)
Ok, first nothing is V-modded yet (thats next) Going to do the GPU mod next day or two. Temps that I know of for sure are :
Water/antifreeze temp = 0 deg. F
Sensor on the back side of the Gpu (attached to the neoprene) was 44 deg. F
Also, I have a 5000 BTU/HR window air cond. blowing into side of case. Air temps 35-40 Deg. F
Before the pelt with modified heat sink on the GPU and the air cond. I could get only 370 out of my GPU. Ran the 17860 at 403Mhz no problem. I'm sure I can get more out of it. Especially with the V-mod.
