Try to unplug the monitor from video card when u do the test, it might give u 100 extra scores, also, did u do memory timing ?

Hey Bullnuts,
I thought I had a kicka** system. Yours rocks. Did you b/m at the stock settings? I'am interested in the 9800 w/ the 256 meg. Got the 9800 w/128 and wonder if I'd get much more in real life by upgrading. Tried 3500 & 3700 memory sticks, and not much for the buck- returned them for a dvd-rw.
Gonna check out your cooling system, Iam running 3 case fans now and a Vantec aeroflow, looks like i could do better w/o water. Is your gpu cooler off the shelf or custom made?
AMD 3200 xp
MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
2 sticks Corsair 3200c2pt 512 meg
9800 pro 128 meg
ALlied 450 psu
etc the rest o' the junk.
Best 3d mark 18,301.

Heh thanks. I built it myself and I'm really enjoying it, I just finished building my friends comp for him...
2600+ AMD XP
3x 80GB Western Dig
1GB PC2700 DDR
ATI 9800 PRO
etc.. etc...
Benched at 17k after a few tweaks
If you need help on building your comp give me a shout

This may seem like a dumb question, but i'd not considered it before - is it possible to stick an extra 128M RAM into a 128M 9800 Pro, thus making it a 256M 9800 Pro? And Bullnuts - the heatpipe you talk about, is that a Zalman VPU heatpipe system or something else? - big scores all round.

heh, you cannot stick another stick of ram into a graphics card, it would be like saying you wanna have a 128 and another 128 mate and have a 256 baby.... basicly impossible. And yes it is a Zalman and it's Massive heh.

Bullnuts and all:
Checked out the Zalman (31$ U.S. at Fry's) and some of the reviews. Big question is cooling the mem chips on the card. Is this an issue??? Seems the stock fan provides some draft to the chips where the Zalman does not (no sh*t).
The Zalman is massive, suprised you don't need a support bracket for it. Looked at the reviews on the 9800 w/ 256. Will stick w/ my 9800 w/ 128 for now.
Don't know if you are into games like UTII or need to load large files, but I have a WD raptor in my system... Makes a big difference loading. Don't get a chance to grab a cold one while waiting to load files for UT any more.

Zalman have resently changed the design of their VPU heatpipe cooler and I just bought the new one having previously owned the older one. The new one is a different colour (metallic looking now instead of copper) and has additional supports linking the 2 radiators thus reducing stress on the assembly. The whole thing looks a little bulkier but is more substantial. The optional fan now attaches directly to the unit instead of having a seperate case mounted bracket. It is quite a weight when assembled and I'm going to be extra careful when moving the box around, but I think it's ok. There is enough space between the radiator and memory chips to place additional low profile heatsinks, but I agree that it's not much to work with. The fan runs on 12v and 5v at 2800rpm and 1400rpm and is silent at the lower speed. I don't know which version mobo57 was reviewing, but I think the new system is cool.

Just benched at 18,239 3dmark01 se. Not the highest I've done, but everything running rock solid.
fsb at 412
mult at 11.5
9800 mem at 740, core left alone.
FYI, Zalman has a new cooler that includes an optional fan for the memory. Going to check it out at Fry's this weekend.

Geil make excellent RAM and really do rival Corsair in performance and overclockability, however their cheaper line RAM has not got that good a reputation

I think I've hit the wall with this system:
3Dmark01 se: 18,449.
K7N2 Delta ILSR
AMD 3200xp
1 gig Corsair xms 3200C2PT
ATI 9800 pro, with added fan cooling on chip and memory
W2K sp4
Aeroflow, four case fans,
rest o' the stuff
Maybe can squeez a few more points out with 3700 or 4000 memory, but not worth the cost. Gonna wait for a few weeks and pick up a 875+ mobo and a 2.8 or 3.0 Intel when the price comes down and try again.
