I think my vid card is the bottleneck

    My system is as follows

    ABit KG7, Athlon 1.4ghz, 2x256mb Hyundai DDR PC2100, WD 40gb 7200rpm HDD, Asus V7100 GeForce 2MX 400 TV-Out, SBLive! Value, Realtek 8029AS NIC, Realmagic Hollywood+, Pioneer 105s DVD-ROM, Samsung 32x16x10 CD-RW, AOpen HX08 Full Tower Case.

I'm just benchmarking my PC using 3DMark2001, and think that my video card is a huge bottleneck in my system.

I get 2421 running the default benchmark...nothing in my PC is overclocked, and i'd prefer to keep it that way.
    Tweaking is for me

I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me if the score seems low for the PC, or if indeed my video card is the bottleneck?

    Cheers,

    Pedantic Pat

It seems that score should be about 1000 pts. higher.
    I'm running a Duron 900 with an Mx400 and PC133.
    I get scores of 3100(running my cpu @ 1100).

My scores were considersbly lower until I updated the Mobo and Video card drivers.Look here

That's about it with the mx400.! The max you can get to is to 2700 and that is if you overclock the card.!

darreld -- I don't know how you got an mx400 running that fast when some GTS cards doesn't get there! I have a T-bird 1.2 with an Elsa 511 mx400 card and max I have gotten is 2600 points.! I have to try those Via drivers.! Are they any good?

Maybe I got lucky and got an excepyional card, it's a PNY.
I do know the right combo of drivers made almost a 1000 pt difference.

    Your mark sounds about right.
I get about 2650 with my Hercules 3d Prophet 2 MX.
I have the same RAM and CPU as yourself.

Your graphics card is definitly the bottle neck.
I'd wait around for NVIDIA's Titanium range to be released before upgrading it.

3100 with a Duron, PC133 and an MX???
I think you know something we don't.

I'd better check my drivers again!!!

    Hi,

I OC/ed my MX400 to 210core/205mem (max it would go with no extra cooling at all)
    And now I get 2944 or something'ish
The 3dmark scores don't really matter to me, I just wanted to make sure my system was tweaked properly.
The main thing is that I can run most games at 1024x768x32 with no noticeable slowdowns at all...
    i.e. Max Payne, Q3A, UT.

    Cheers,

    Pat.

Ouch! I have a 700Mhz Duron @ 950Mhz, 256MBs DDR mem, and a Radeon LE (oc'ed and tweaked to the Radeon DDR's speed). And I get 2643 or something close (the last two numbers might be off). I hope you get your preformance up! I feel bad for MX owners. I almost bought a mx400 64MB $89, but the fine people here at sysopt told me of the LE. I never looked back! This card is super!

Infact yesterday at the local bestbuy I basicly sold a guy a Radeon 64MB DDR!!! The sales associate was trying to sell him a GeForce2 MX400 64MB for the same price $99! oy

Your video card is definitely the bottleneck on your system, if you want more "gaming performance" from your system, you just have to upgrade your video card, and your performance should be great.. I would recommended at least a GeForce2 PRO for your system at minimum.

Before my overclock i was getting scores of about 1500 (CRAPPY), and that was with 66 fsb. Now i am running 100 fsb and almost 400 mhz faster and i am getting score of like 600. I dont know if i just need to re-install 3d-mark 2001 or what, please give some help here....

Try getting your latest drivers for your video card and/or your other components such as motherboards. If that doesn't help just post another reply.
