What to do with a domain?
I have a domain and haven't got around using it. Mostly because I am not sure what to do. How can I start using it? I have Internet Cable and a couple of dialup accounts(for work). Any suggestions?
I'd like to setup some email through my domain.

Do you mean to ask how to make a website, or do you need ideas for a website ?.

I have a domain. How do I use it for both a website and email hosting. What are my options.

First time posting using the Mandrake Linux OS Kinda cool!!
It sounds like you need to get a host. You can find many on the net. You can do a search for web hosting. Be sure to read all the info about what you get for your money. It will cost anywhere from 9.95-100s for hosting. After you find a host you will need to find out how they let you upload files. I would pick a host that lets you do FTP(most let you do this). Get yourself a good FTP and then start making web pages for your new domain.

hehe....just saw your next post...
Your web host will set that all up for you. Most of the time they will ask if you already have a domain name. If you dont they will then set it up for you. I think you will pay more per email box you set up. I could be wrong. Oh yeah..if you look in your local phone book you may just find a local host. That makes it nice when you have tech problems.

Look into the DDNS servers. Some are free. Some allow you to use your own domain name. With the DDNS you can link your dynamic IP address to your domain name. Then setup an email server and relating MX record, and you will be able to easily receive the email at your domain.
You can also setup an FTP or web server and associate that with your domain.

Thanks for the help. I've never heard of a DDNS. What is that? I do have a dynamic IP setup. I tried www.no-ip.com and was successful with that configuration but email still leaves me in the dust. Since I am paying approx. $60/month for access makes it hard to spend further for small site as mine. I don't intend on advertising or putting info on it that would be load intensive.
Does anyone have similar setups or recommendations on a web hosting site?
