Why is the Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1 rarely mentioned as a heavy hitting sound card?

This card truely kicks some serious booty.
(Is that better now?)

I have my PC audio connected to my Yamaha HTR-5250 receiver with Pinnacle Classic Gold Tower speakers and it absolutley rocks the house.

I agree. I had an SB Live! for a while, but was so dissapointed with its support in Windows 2000 at first. Now I just use the onboard audio on my Intel Piii motherboard. Works just fine.

The original SB-Live truly kicked **** the first two years.

Then they sucked up all the profits they could from it for way too long.

Now the best card is the TBSC and Herc GTXP....and since I already have a TBSC, I don't think I will need the audigy for anything.

CL...too little too late. I think they could have made this card two years ago.

i own a SB Live! 5.1 Platinum and i am proud of it. I like it's performance. And regarding compatibility..... it has worked with ALL versions of windows i have ever used.... including NT, 2k and XP (beta)

maybe u guys r right....... but that's because u have a cheaper scaled down version (usually called the "value" series). Spend some money... like i did and get a higer performance piece.

vintron, you would be incorrect. It is not only the SB live that has problems the PCI 512 does also. I had a SB Live X-gamer card and it died so I got a PCI 512 (the live was out of stock) and still have problems. Please do not try to insult our intelligence by saying we are cheap!

The one and only difference between the Live and the value is the Live has "S/PDIF In". At least according the the specs from http://www.soundblaster.com/products...alue/specs.asp http://www.soundblaster.com/products/sblive/specs.asp
Who knows, maybe I missed one. Be sure to correct me if I am incorrect.

Shoooot what are you all talking about. I'm still pleased with my SB AWE 64 ISA. Ok maybe it's a bit old and true ISA devices do tend to cause a system to be slower but it works great! Now if I could only figure out how to get W2K to keep from putting all my devices on one IRQ I'll be good to go!

I'll keep using Philips cards, though I'm still seeking a stable supplier for the Videologic Sound Fury here in the states.


CoNeSsIuS, check out http://www.geforcefaq.com to fix your IRQ issue. It's related to how Win2k uses ACPI.

Yeah, me neither... I havn't bought a Creative Labs product within in the last 2 or 3 years that I'v actually been pleased with. I got a Nomad II... ****!! No good at all, I went back to my Rio 500.

And if I could find decent drivers for my MX300 for linux, I'd ditch my Live! too.

I really don't know what everyone's talking about, I've had 3 win2k machines, and on each one I had installed a SB Live! Value, and it works fine on each. BTW you must intall the 2000/NT drivers, not the drivers from the Win9x cd.

This creative card looks like one of the best SB cards in jears!
The last real good SB card was the Awe64 Gold.

i'm sorry guys, but i love my SB Live! X-Gamer. it puts out the best sound i've ever heard; better than the MX300, better than "onboard audio" ****. the eax extensions are so much more realistic compared to A3D. play vampire for example, and listen to both- eax has a better "real" feeling to it.

as for specs and other stuff, i don't know much about either card, i just base my opinion from what i've heard. i used to have a Crystal audio chip onboard my old motherboard and that may be the reason i hate onboard audio so much. it put out fuzzy sound, sometimes the sound would stop for no reason at all, and it was a pain in the *** to turn it off when i got my SB.

The Sonic Fury IS the Turtle beach Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz is sold in the states only, and the Sonic Fury is sold in the UK only. The drivers are interchangeable.

ertip...as for sound quality, the new cards from Turtle Beach and Hercules have better sound quality than any original SB-Live card, and even supprot EAX2, where the SB-Live doesn't. They also support A3D ( all versions so far ) where no CL card will ever support A3D.

jumpping to conclusions? I had the live! platinum. I spent $200 on it. When it was first released the drivers were very limited in Win2k. Even now they don't have allthe SB application support that the win98 ones do.

I have a SBLive X-Gamer and have had know problems with it over the last year and a half. The quality of sound is exelent for both music and games. As for win 2000 drivers, they have been poor in the past but a recent upgrade avalable on their creatives web page gives full functinality just like the win 98 drivers.
