    Seagate's new 80GB 7200rpm silent hard drive

Boy I can't wait for this to come out in all the drives, The hi pitched sounds of hard drives drive me insane.

I'm guessing they are talking the spinning and not the grinding sound? I don't mind the grinding, its almost nice to know your computers doing something just by listening.

    Silent Drive?
Is this the Hunt For Red October or something?

Anyway its probably more quiet than our current high speed/high capacity drives most of us now use. Instead of our computers sounds sounding like fighter aircraft on the tarmac it is good innovation. Though one thing...
    Does it sacrifice speed?
Does it justify a higher cost?
Are we afraid to listen to our Migs and F15s
churning away beside us? I thought noise was a tell tale sign of a modified computer?

If it is silent how well does the hard drive keep cool anyway? It will probably need some huge fan anyway to cool it. So it probably make it a moot point?
