Surprised by Office XP features announced by Gates

Finally! Microsoft software that is actually something that consumers can be happy with after purchasing!

I think they are finally realizing some of the things that people ACTUALLY want, and are putting their power towards providing software that actually meets the consumer's needs effectively.

This is the part that frightens me. Let's hope that security has been equally enhanced and that this will not turn into an exploit fiasco like Outlook.

How MS has the nerve to charge the inordinate amount they do for software amazes me.

Inspect Corel Word Perfect 2000, for the price difference I'll stick with other vendors of software..

MicroSwamp can keep it, or sell it to suckers who think MS is the only game in town.

First off, I know there are other things out there. Second, I bet that the new XML suport will kick the pants of Corel's latest works. So don't go around calling people suckers because they choose something different than you.

Hey Richard Corel, Lotus 123 & Wordperfect ruled the world 15 ~ 20 years ago, every corp used their products. What happened? I don't know but I do know they were far too expensive for home use. Sadly, if you don't use MS then it becomes harder for you to share info

On the intelligent response, there are "readers" available to those who choose to save money with lesser products.

They can then "share" the savings by sending a reader to their base.

Of course, a very large business cannot do something like this, only a home user.

No Jon, why would I? If he dos'nt want to turn this into a debate I can respect that. And I do like Wordperfect beter than Word97 but I think XP will be really good.

I'm on a beta for WinXP(2462)and OfficeXP (10.2511), tried Office with 2000 Pro(2195)also. Both programs work well on a clean drive, but upgrades don't work as well though. The final release for both products is even better. It's about time for the consumer to have something like this to work with.

Since WinXP is targeted at the consumer market, WinXP systems will be very vulnerable to all kinds of trojans, etc., since the average consumer is completely unaware of security problems and defenses. (Steve Gibson In article mentioned just before this one)

Yes, I read that on another thread here. But I think (and pray) that M$ learned from all the holes in Outlook and have developed some way to protect it from Trojans and whathaveyou. But look on the bright side, if they did'nt then most the people reading this will have more job opportunities as security consoltants. ;-)
