    WinZip compression algorithms...

Does anybody know what compression algorithms WinZip uses apart from LZ77 and the repeated character compression algorithm?

Just trying to get some in-house analysis software to compress its output files which are creeping up to 40meg and shortly due to double in size... getting to the "silly" stage when these have to be sent across a 56k modem every day.

    I've got some questions:

What format/type are the output files? Iffin it is text, is a binary format an option?

Why don't you just zip before sending and then unzip on recieve? Basically the same thing will need to be accomplished iffin analysis process compresses output file. It will need to be uncompressed somewhere on the recieving side.

Humm, run analysis software on why 80Meg (or even 40Meg) is being transmitted over a 56k pipe? The bottleneck is the skinny 56k pipe, not the analysis output.
