can you get into an ACT! database from a VB6 front end?
I have been working on program for work that keeps track of all our proposals that come in. I was wondering if there was a way to have the program search for a client that may have already been added to our ACT!2000 databse and fill out some of the fields for the user. This would be a great help for some of the people I work with since they work with a lot of the same clients over and over again.
I have searched the web and VB help files but I mainly seem to find info on how to connect to MS Access and nothing about ACT! specifically.
Has anyone done this before or have any idea how to do something like this? Any sugestions are welcome.
Keep in mind, my VB knowledge is limited but I am a fast learner

Any ideas? Even if somebody could tell me whether they think this is possible or not, you would really be a great help.

lack of replies would signal that no one has any idea. sorry
But, looking through the few act books. I doubt you can access act directly, unless you had a tool that did it.
An idea to change things.. It can export and import from comma-delimited text files. So, if it can do that from the command line, you could possibly, in a round about ugly way, get all the data from the db, and put in what you want. Just a wild idea...

Did you even search the website?
"Make ACT! fit exactly what your specific needs are. Extend the functionality of ACT!, enable external applications to control ACT!, and read and write to ACT! database tables. To access the SDK download, please fill out the following form and select Submit at the bottom of this page."

LOL, way to go qball.
I didn't bother going to their site, cuz I was there a month ago, and it sucked. But, that's beside the point, I've also been supporting the older 4.0 version..
Anyway, there's the answer, an SDK will probably let you do just about anything...now just noone tell my dad, I finally got him moved over to Goldmine which is much better.

Good.
We did a PB app accessing an ACT DB years ago, so I kinda thought it could be done. I just couldn't/can't remember where we got the DB driver, from ACT or Sybase...
By chance, iffin SDK blows, post back, else no news is good news...
