OK, so I went to Sun.com to download Java 1.2

And I'm lost. I have 1.1.6, it came with a textbook last year. It's no long on my system. All I find at Sun are these visual software programs from other vendors. ....Like Borland. DO I just grab one of those, or am I looking in the wrong place? All I really want is a Java 2 compiler

I'm guessing you got to this page, and didn't scroll down far enough
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download-windows.html

past the ides and the documentation there it is, with a button that says continue. I think you have to register somewhere past that point, but you can find it from there.

p.s. I have found suns website to be pretty confusing, and not very well done.

i totally agree dragon.. that website is in bad need of a massive overhaul... I have found that entire of sections of the website are duplicated in other sections, but have been spiffed up with cooler text/graphics and stuff.... r u kidding me!?! with a site like that.. some uniformity really helps.

btw - I dl'd the 1.3.1 version a few weeks ago, and as far as I can tell, there is minimal difference.. of course I don't do that much programming, and I still use applets sincd Swing has yet to be widely adapted.

btw again - I think that the KAWA IDE is probably one of the best ide's. it makes programming soooo much more easy by color coding stuff and making quick refrerences to all of the classes much easier.

    good luck

Wow that was cool. I didnt even have to register this time. I couldnt get the link for 1.3 to work, so I'm getting 1.2. My school starts back up at the end of August, and I'm taking a real Java programming class. I had beginning programming, and that used Java, but didn't get too in depth. I figure I need to refresh my memory so I can keep up. I'm takin VB too.
