    Lockup coz of Maxtor?

Returned my new Maxter DiamondMax 40.9Gig, 'coz I had a serious problem. In Win2000Pro as well as in Linux (though Linux way less) my computer would some times lock up. As in: nothing happened anymore. Keyboard stuck, mouse stuck, everything stuck. And then I heard the HD do "click-click, click-click, click-click, click-click, click, click, click, click" and it would keep on clicking. So, was it broke or does anyone have any ideas what else it could've been?

    Abit KT7A, AMD T-bird 1.333Ghz, 2x256Mb PC133, Plextor 12/10/32, SBLive, Diamond Viper V770.

btw, I know about the SBlive/KT7A problem, it wasn't that, took out the SBLive: same problem existed.

Have you tried the system out with a new hd?

it sounds like you did have a bad drive. The clicking noise is the best indicator there because a clicking noise like that generally means the drive is messed up.

If you decide to get another drive you could go with maxtor again, there drives are generally good you must have just got a rare bad drive. IBM would also be another good drive manufacturer to choose from.
