POLL: Do you round your IDE cables?
Anyone here have rounded IDE cables; either ATA33 or ATA66?
Also,do you have any problems with them?
Are rounding them a good thing to do?

have to say Mtnsnow those are two tidy cases. Can't seem to do much with the miles of cable.
Those rounded ones do help though just got a couple to try them out and am impressed.

I tried...
After I saw the article about that a while ago I tried.
I ended up destroying 2 IDE cables, I then decided flat cables are fine.

Yes I round my cables, but they're not ata66, or ata100 though. I will always round my cables! And no I have never had any problems with them.

Round!
Is the only way to go. Yes I have done ATA66/100 cables with automotive wiring wrap and an X-Acto knife .......
Pic
(poor pic but you get the idea)hehe
I've done a little more to it so the cables are barely visible!
You can buy them on-line at Cool Breez for $11.50ea and I think shipping is just $5...

I rounded my own at first but later purchased rounded cables. I like the smooth covers and the boots are very clean looking. Have the same yellow cables as in Mntsnow's rig.

Actually, no. Seemed to be a post for those that do but had to throw in a dissenting opinion. I don't think it would reduce the temp that much in my one overclocked system because of the way the fans are currently placed. Also, that is a ATA/100 drive with the 80 pin cable - seems to me that they put the extra ground between the signal wires for a reason. If they are rounded and bunched together, then wouldn't that defeat the purpose?

Yeah, I round all my cables. ATA66/100 cables, and FDD cables as well. I like them neat and tide in my casing. Basically coz my casing is open, hehe.
Btw, no problems with my rounded cables. And you definitely will save a lot. Just be careful not to strip the plastic of the wires. Round them in bunch of 10 wires for normaly IDE cables, and for ATA cables, round them in 20s. That what I do.

Yes I do.
I like the improved air flow in the cases.
pictures of both Factory made ata100 cables and my own can be seen at

thanks for all the feedback!
actually, i just wanted to be sure that there are no problems with rounded cables.
Will the signal in each wire actually interfere with each other???

I round all my cables and have no problems except the fact that I have had to throw away three cables in the last few weeks. I round because I'm tired of dealing with the flat ribbons. They can be folded out of the way, but you crease them and it's too much hassle for me although it's much quicker than rounding a cable. I didn't really check to see if airflow or temperature were improved.
On 80 conductor cables, if you split them into even numbered groups, you will not have problems. Every other wire is a ground and it's there for the wire next to it. I think it's just there for a reference voltage in case some interference gets into the line, you subtract the signal voltage from the reference and get the actual signal. I usually split my 80s into groups of 8.
