    How to mirror disks?

I will have RAID 1 (mirror) on a promise FastTrak card. Should the disks be on different channels or does it make a difference?

PS I will also have CD-W/RW and DVD and CDROM drives.

Do you have other channels available which are not on the RAID card? If so, put the CD/DVD drives there. Try to limit other devices on the RAID controller which are not part of the RAID array.

How many HD's do you have? Just 2? Then put them on different channels to improve performance.

You would be best served by placing one H.D. on each channel set as master (if Western Digital disks are used, set them with the jumpers in the parking position or removed).
Drives on the same channel can only be accessed sequentially, the channels themselves can be addressed in parallel.
