    Corupted hard drive?

My flatemates computer is failing to load, he gets a error "Missing OS" on boot, I have taken his hard drive from his PC and stuck it in mine, as you cant read it in his (all that comes up is garbage). Upon browsing his Hard drive I get this

My flatmate tells me he has his studies on his PC and would like the data to be recovered, any Ideas would be much apreciated

Have scanned with Inoculate, which tells me that the master boot record is ok and the partition boot record is ok.

this is how inoculate reports the scanning <IMG SRC="URL=http://catdoggg.tripod.com/dave1.gif" border=0>
inoculate is still scaning at over 100000 files, I have decided to stop it

and this is how easy cleaner reports the space usage <IMG SRC="http://catdoggg.tripod.com/dave2.gif" border=0>

My flatmate tells me he has done nothing out of the ordinary and has not dropped or banged his PC/Harddrive

would it be safe to assume that his data cant be recovered?
