To RAID or not to RAID
I'm thinking about installing a RAID card into my system. My questions are, is there a performance boost? I need two identical drives, do they have to be identical, ie. same manufacturer, size and speed? Can both be 30GB drives but not "identical" in every way?
From my experiences, you can use two different hdd's and it still work.
Sorry, can't point you directly, but look for similar posts, it's already been explained.
The most important is to have similar size disks, if they're not, the additional space simply goes wasted. But it's always better to have similar disks, if you care about stability/speed.
P.S. Just found few links :

Thanks ND, those were very good links and cleared up many questions I had. I think I will try the software RAID cards since I got a new motherboard burning some CPU time shouldn't be a concern.
