    16X versus 12X

What is the problem with my CD burner. I recently purchased a 12X NEC burner and no matter what I try, it will not burn 16X cd's at any speed faster than 4X. What is wrong with this?

what software are you using to burn the cd?

most software has options for setting the speed to burn a disk, it could be you have the setting left to default which is usually 4x.

Do your CD-Rs support more than 12x?

I am using Easy CD creator v4.5. It does have the option of burning at a higher speed on 12X cd's but not the 16X. I have been trying to get the 16's to work but with still no luck.

It might just be crappy 16x CD's if you got em cheap and you could burn at 12x with other CD's. The CompUSA CD's are like that. If you buy a cheap 100 pack, about 50 will work fine.

Chevy is probably right...get a "name brand" CD-R like Memorex, Imation, Sony, PNY or others.

I was just talking to some computer tech guy at a local store. He says that no 16's work with 12X burners. Does he know what he's talking about?

Don't listen to computer tech guy
Try replacing your burning software, try either Nero or NTI CD-Maker 2000.
I have here some no-name blank medias, which look like hell, don't even know what speed they rated, coz ATIP is blocked, but I can still burn @12x (Teac CD-W512EB 12/10/32).

In addition to Warthog, also try Plextor, Verbatim, TDK and similar, don't get cheap here ...

    Best Regards ...
