ASUS A7A266 & Samsung Hard Drives
Hello:
I have a new ASUS A7A266 bios 1.004 rev.1.03 that is corrupting the FAT,cross linking files and getting lost clusters in both my Samsung hard drives. I have reinstalled Windows Me from scratch but I still get the problem. Every time I run scandisk I get new problems, but the drives don't have bad sectors. My drives were formatted by the previous system. Following advice from ASUS, I have fdisked and reformatted the drive. After installing Win Me again I noticed the problems reappeared. It is to be noted that the problems persist also in DOS Mode, thus they are not Windows related. I have now reduced the drive's ATA mode to 3 to see what happens. My drives are both Samsung
(different models) and both have problems. What can I do?

Have you tried setting bios settings to default, Then fdisking both drives,
1st. drive C will be primary dos partition.
2nd. drive D will be extended dos partition.
Then
Format c:
Format D:
Almost forgot do you have a Win ME startup disk ?

Update:
I have reduced the drive to UDMA 3 and so far all is great. I will also try to change the ATA66 cable for a new one and set UDMA 4 again and see what happens.

I have fixed the problem. The culprit was a faulty (fabrication flaw) ATA66 cable. It had one of the cables split.

If it is an 80 wire, 40 pin connector some of them are made that way.
