Can't get slave to work on Abit BE6-II

I have an Abit BE6-II MB with two IBM deskstar hard drives. When I try to use the on-board UDM/ATA 66 controler I can't get a slave drive to work. Two masters works fine but I can't get a Master and a slave to work at all... when I try the system locks up at the Win2K logo screen.
I have downloaded all the most recent drivers from Abit and Highpoint.

Any suggestions or input welcome.

Could you maybe have a bad IDE cable (just a shot in the dark). Try switching cables around.
