    Gurrr **** this thing

I know this is in the wrong forum, but the hard drive forum gets very little notice.

I bought an IBM 40GB 60gxp hard drive and now that it is all hooked up and running, it emits a very annoying screeching noise. Is this drive supposed to do this? it sounds like a dentists drill only higher pitched and not as loud. Is there anything i can do to make it not do this? or would i need to send it back and get a replacement?

Discuss it with your re-seller and seek an RMA or go back and present it to the return desk where purchased for a possible replacement---the sound you describe "could" be an indication of a defective drive...

I second the King's emotion. Pain in the rear end, but very likely a drive that's likely going to fail.

One of the reasons the HD forum doesnt seem to get much traffic is due in part to people posting Data Storage questions in other forums

The Data Storage forum is Checked Daily by myself and many others. In the future please use the correct forum...you will get an answer

Am I missing something? I don't see a HD forum......................

My answer was going to be like Mntsnows but different...."One of the reasons the HD forum doesnt seem to get much traffic is because the HD forum doesn't exist!"

    hehe

Anyhew, can someone please point me towards this fabled "HD forum"? Isn't "Data storage" the HD forum, I mean you store data on your hd, right?
