Settle the Despute
Question, This machine will be burning a lot of music!!!!
A7M266
PLextor 16/10/40a
Asus 50x cdrom
1) 40g IBM
1) 60g IBM
256K DDR 2100
The 40g hard drive is the primary
The 60g will be for sorage, wave files (slave)
I have the Plextor as Primary
and the Asus cdrom as slave
The two hard drives are on the same IDE cable as is the two cdroms.
Is this the best cable connections for burning performance???
I need to shut my computer buddy up once and for all.
Thanks!

Not really if the Ausu 50x is going to be the source drive of the music to be burned.
If your source of the music is the HD's then Yes your optimally configured.
In short. Have the Source and the Burner on DIFFERENT IDE busses

Thank You Mntsnow for your reply.
Another Question,
I have both hard drives on the primary IDE the 60g is slaved. The c Drive has the OS on it.
The secondary IDE has the Plextor as primary and the cd-rom is slaved.
I was told that both hard drives should be on the pri and sec IDE and the cdrom and burner should be slaves.
If you have a link that I might be able to read about this I would appreciate that also.
Thank YOU

Evil Lurks
It doesn't really matters for HDs, and burner is always better to have as "master".
Another thing : since you gonna burn a lot of music (I hope legal ), make sure you turn the "BURNproof" option off, since it will be giving you annoying clicks while playing burned discs if any low-buffer situations occured and BURNproof worked.
Best Regards ...

manor631,
Plextor recommends that the burner be the master on the seconday and the cdrom the secondary. Thus both hd's will be on the primary.I have 2 hd's on the primary and a plextor 16x as master and a cdrom as slave on the secondary, this setup seems to work pretty good.If there are better setups let me know?

You might have some trouble with only 256k of memory though
