    need help with new Atapi 50x cd-rom

    I need help fast.I just bought a new cd-rom cause mine went crazy. this new cd-rom will not load up in windows but will in dos. it will not recognize the driver when i load it up. it says it is not installed and when i do try to bring it up it slows everything down to a crawl and i have to reboot it to get anything up or use anything. we are using windows 95 operating system. if anybody could help me in a hurry i sure would appreciate it in advance. thanks alot

    Here's a few thing you could try...

    Delete the driver for the old CDROM. Make sure you delete any CDROM drivers that are loaded into autoexec.bat and config.sys. Windows doesn't need these drivers.

    Also, go into safe mode and delete the old CDROM from the Device Manager.

    Try changing the master/slave/CS jumper to see if it helps.

    BTW, what brand of motherboard, cdrom, and HDs do you have?
