Fan for Harddrive ?
Hey everyone, I just got a western digital 40 gig 7200 RPM hard drive and was wondering if its vitally important to get another fan in the machine to cool it down? All i have is a power supply and processor fan but i dont have any pins to plug in another one (or if i do, i dont know which are which) Im afraid of my harrdrive corrupting - how important is a fan in this case ? Thanks a lot.

No, I don't think it's necessary at all for 7,200rpm drives. I have 7,200rpm drives that've been running on top of one another which makes it run hotter since the gap between the drives is narrow wihout a fan for over 2 years and haven't ever gotten any problems related to heat. I also have a several SCSI 10,000rpm drive with no hard disk fan I've been using for over a year and still running with no problems.

Still, it makes me much cooler when HD runs cool , since my comp runs 24/7.
I use HD cooling module mounted in 5.25" bay, with 2 fans, cost me about 15$.
Have IBM DTLA 75GXP 7200RPM 45GB.
Best Regards ...
