Some drives such as Western Digital have a utility that you d/l from their site that changes the ata 33,66,100. But it still needs to be benchmarked. I have one machine that the book says runs ata66 but really it doesn't.

How do you tell if a HDD is running at ATA-100??

I just got an Ultra ATA-100, 5400 RPM Maxtor 30 GB with 9.5 MS access time and a buffer of 2 MB. I hooked it up to an Epox board with ATA-100 capabilities. How do I know if it is running at 100 MB/sec? Is the re a jumper or something I have to set to make it work on 33-66-100, or does it automatically set it? I just want to make sure I am getting the fastest possible out of this thing.

Benchmark test it. Use Sandra or HDTach
