Better to drop the member categories?

I was wondering whether it might be advantageous to drop the member categories on sysopt. I'm talking about: Jr. Member, Member, Senior Member, Ultimate Member, etc. I think there are two (at least) problems with the present scheme. First, I think "newbies" (or any inquiring member) give more creedence to a Ultimate Member's advice regarding a problem than the advice of a Jr. Member. And frankly, I've read some "Jr. Member" responses to posts and these new members really seem to know of what they are speaking. Second: In a race to have "Senior Member" (for example) posted next to ones name, I've seen some ridiculous and often redundant posts just to get one more notch. Sometimes just a "Yeah, great!" post... you've all seen them.

Then again, we were all Jr.Members once. But a better system, if we had feedback, might be "500 correct responses" = Sr. Member, etc.

This has been discussed many of times with people in this forum. Basically it comes down if you post a lot of **** then there not going to take your status seriously. (Which many don't take the status seriously) I really don't look at someone membership status and judge the person.

I never looked for an "ultimate member" response before attacking the problem with the information given, simply because I was able to apply the first solution down to the last until the problem was solved.
I wonder who would determine if a certain answer was correct and how would one tabulate the results?

I propose a merit-based system. Every post would be judged by everyone else on a scale of 1 to 10. Everyone's average point value would be visible to all. Then at the end of each week, mntsnow or socalgal would point out the person with the lowest average and say, "YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK! GOODBYE!"

I could really care less.

I would like to find one person who actually does take the post count seriously. I would out very quickly if people judged my posts, mainly because I don't post that often in the other forums anymore.

Membership levels are based on post counts. A member's status is not an indicator of content quality, originality, or helpfulness. Membership status only defines the individuals that frequent the site more often than other members.

Nowaday's I don't look at the post-count or member status unless someone just made 'Ultimate' or 'Senior' status. Although when I first started I did take status level a little serious, that was a long time ago though, I remember being surprised when an Ultimate Member' named MNTSNOW took the time to respond to a simple ram question, I kinda felt honored back then. This was my first forum and the only one I really contribute to regularly. I can't see member status being abolished though, most due genuinely deserve to be recognised for their contribution to the forum.

About the only time i pay much attention to member status is if it's a junior member asking a ? in the wrong forum ,or one that has been asked a million time's. Then I just count to ten and try to send them in the right direction without saying something like, yo dumb@** why didn't you look here?

Things are fine the way they are. The community forum rule has changed a lot of what was a problem in the past. Jr, Sr, Ult, they are all the same to me.

Heck, I ask more question then replies... I really don't look at the status of the person who replies. If they can help me then that's just fine with me. Whether there a junior or Ultimate, if they have a good answer then there just as valuable as anyone else.
