Hey, how does Sysopt know when you're online anyway? IP address? ICQ? People posting? Any way you look at it, how accurate could it really be?

Sorry, wasn't trying to ruin your fun. Actually I really do want to know how online members are counted. Scott? Socalgal? Mntsnow? Anyone?

They are counted by the forum Cookie that is used to remember who you are. If you were to want and visit and not have anyone beable to see your on-line all you have to do is disable your cookies but you will then have to type in your name and password everytime you go to post. If you ever notice there is times that you will see me posting and I will not show up on the page is because I'm using a shared computer at work that we have setup to not use cookies...but when I'm on the computer in my cubie that is locked down when I'm not there I will show up and of course when I'm here at home I show up as the cookies are enabled

It goes even further than that... the little script we use to show the "who's online" has some bugs and it resets itself at a random point.. and I've never seen it above 35, and Scott and I have a theory that when it gets above 25 it has a tendancy to reset at any time.

Since we'll be upgrading the forum to an in-house forum at some point in the coming months, that is supposed to be a feature that will be completely fixed.

And for any of you that might be concerned that EW will just be creating any old forum, they are listening to all of our ideas for the ideal forum design and promise to implement as many as possible. It should be good... though there is no official release date yet.
