i thought this new section was not going to be anal.....
i mean, i haven't been as interested in computers lately, i've mostly been using my computer for mail, mp3's and icq, so my interest in the other areas like tech support have been as strong, but i like this whole forum cause the people are fun to talk to.... but when every thing that is ever said is locked or edited, it becomes a pain....
-
now that i'm legal, i plan on being drunk for the rest of my life, so i'm not sure how much i'll be here........
What did you expect?????????

Matthead,
There are rules that will apply to this forum as well. We are trying to grant a bit of lattatude but when it gets out of line we have to crack the whip.

recently visited another forum, which has an open topic, believe me its a jungle, people flaming each other, like a bunch of spoiled children. and a sizable amount of trash, one like that is enough. but available for any who chose it.

I'll 2nd that alondra. I think we really take for granted the high quality of this message board (yes, I'm talking to me too) Things *can* and have gotten out of hand before with the OT postings but it seems as if everything has calmed down again. It's business as usual.

Just because there's a new, non-tech related forum here does not mean that the same rules, regulations and policies that govern all the forums no longer apply.
Topics considered inappropriate when General Discussion was active are just as inappropriate in SysOpt.community.
This community does not exist for posting "whatever" you want - indeed we intend to maintain a high standard here, as we do for each and every forum. This means everyone maintains a level of respect for one another and not post offensive or tasteless topics (yes, I know it's subjective).
Anyone who has been here for awhile knows what I'm talking about. SysOpt will also soon be putting up a detailed forum FAQ which will guide newer members and clarify things further for everyone.

Yeah. And now that I'm sort of associated with this forum, we'll have no more tomfoolerly around here. We run a tight ship...wait a minute...what's this we ****? The moderators run the show here, in fact my fame already seems to be fading...Hey! who turned off that spotlight?
Truth is, we're lucky to get this OT forum. Not only should it help keep the other forums free of OT posts, but it should be a place where we can discuss other aspects of our lives which will help us all "get to know" each other on a different level.
I picture it like a breakroom at work. While you're hanging out there, you certainly aren't required to discuss your job, but it's also not appropiate to discuss just anything or get crazy.

This is a professional forum, and not a place to discuss your propensity towards frequent alcohol indiscretions. Lets think for a moment: what topics could we discuss that aren't related to computers and the Internet?:
Politics
Science
Current events/news
School
Our jobs (environment there, people there)
Favorite food/drink
Favorite shops, restaurants
Cool places to visit while in: Paris, Chicago, New York, Dallas, etc.
Business matters, entrepreneurship
Automotive interests / driving
SysOpt issues - policies, members, suggestions
Exercise
Competitive sports
That's not a complete list by ANY means, but my point is that there are appropriate things to discuss here and inappropriate things. Feel free to discuss your newly acquired ability to legally drink with your friends, and with other message boards, or with sysopt members here via ICQ or email, but not in this forum.
We're working on an FAQ to be much more inclusive of our policies. We'd like to keep you here as a user, but you're free to go anytime you want if you don't want to get along. The creation of this new forum is provisional. I can yank out it with a couple of mouse clicks.

hey wait a minute,beer goes in that food/drink catagorey....lol

It's fine to discuss beer. You like Shiner Bock? How about Guinness? Or maybe just a draft. Bottom line: I didn't mention getting drunk. Mature people don't say, "lets go get blasted." Or, "I'm 18 now and I'm going to be hammered for the rest of my life." Some people actually drink without getting drunk - what a concept! But I'm not here to judge you - you're free to do what you want in your life, thankfully. But in this forum I have to establish what's acceptable and what isn't.
I picture it like a breakroom at work. While you're hanging out there, you certainly aren't required to discuss your job, but it's also not appropiate to discuss just anything or get crazy.
Great analogy, naming wizard .
