Oh Brother!!

AAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
My brother spends all his wages in the first 2 weeks of the month and then expects the rest of us to bail him out. He "owes" us all hundreds. This month he phones me & my sister & parents with the "I've only got 50p till payday and no food, meter money, bus fare........lend me 50 quid". He earns more than us, has no commitments besides his rent & has an odd definition of lend. We're all skint as well and can't "lend" him anything. My parents end up driving a 6 hour round trip from their house to take him to stay with them for the week & me and my sis feel guilty......... He's 27 btw.

Sorry, I realise this is of no interest to anyone, but I feel better for getting it off my chest.

Ya know,

that sounds exactly like my brother.

The only differences are that he's 24 and is on a ship 2 out of 4 weeks.

He works 2 weeks of the month, get's paid for four, and still uses up all his money.

At the end of the 2 weeks, about 4 days before that his money is used up.

He always comes to me or my parents if he can loan money to be able to pay the train fair!!!

He's younger than me (but older than my sister). I know we sound mean to him, but he's been doing this since he left school - after 11 years you start to get fed up.... oddly, he always manages to find money for beer and fags.

hehe not at all.

The only reason he keeps asking, is because you keep giving.

It may seem harsh, but if he can support himself (and at 27 he should be able to ), then it's time to let him float free and be responsible for his own earning AND spending. Especially if you can barely afford it yourself.

Nothing like not being able to afford food to focus the mind. That's how I learned

Cut him off, moneywise. Take a pet for example..if it knows its going to get scraps from the table , it will beg constantly. But as soon as it learns no one is going to feed it, dinner wont interest it at all.

Being responsible with money is a lesson everyone has to learn in life Some of us just take longer.

My brother in law does this. Owes me 300 bucks so far, but I will not loan him anymore. He won't even work a job for more than 4 months, quitting when he gets tired of it. But he will waste 100 bucks in a weekend going out to dinner and such. People like this drive me crazy.
