Is this Brain Surgery?! (Name of Song)
Does *anyone* know the name of the Artist who does the "People Everywhere Just Wanna Be Free.." song off of the Verizon Wireless Commericial.
Please do not tell me that it is done by the Rascals, or Young Rascals, since this song is a recent remake of the old one.

Oh, man. That's a return to my youth: 60's -- 70s. It's buzzing around in my head but I can't yet think of the group. Let me do a search and return.

this it?
- People Got To Be Free
All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
Listen, please listen, that's the way it should be
Deep in the valley, people got to be free
You should see what a lovely, lovely world this'd be
Everyone learned to live together, ah-hah-unh
Seems to me such an itty bitty thing should be
Why can't you and me learn to love one another?
All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free
I can't understand it, so simple to me
People everywhere just got to be free
If there's a man who is down and needs a helpin' hand
All it takes is you to understand and to pull him through, ah-hah-unh
Seems to me we got to solve it individually, ah-hah-unh
And I'll do unto you what you do to me
Shout it from the mountain on out to the sea (out to the sea)
No two ways about it, people have to be free
Ask me my opinion, my opinion will be
Nat'ral situation for a man to be free
Git right on board now
<brief instrumental interlude>
Oh, what a feelin's just come over me
Love can move a mountain, make a blind man see
Everybody sing it now come on let's go see
Deep in the valley now, we ought to be free
SPOKEN
See that train over there?
That's the train of freedom
It's about to 'rrive any minute, now
You know it's been'a long, long overdue
Look out 'cause it's a'comin' right on through
its the rascals, "people everywhere just wanna be free"

Wiz.. As I said in my very first post, "Please do not tell me that it is done by the Rascals, or Young Rascals, since this song is a recent remake of the old one."
The one on the commericial was MUCH more modern, and is a remake of the song.
Thanks anyway.

It WAS the Rascals, back in '69 (Summer of Luuuvvv...)
But I think, for the commercial, it was redone by the guy who wrote the song (he fronted the Rascals). Felix Cavaliere (sp?)
The song is called "People Got to Be Free", and if I remember right, was on Atlantic records. My older sis had the 45 (brandon, you won't remember those: they were plastic disks with a single spiral trough, and...)

Well, in the commercial, there is a womans' voice who sings the song.
-
Brandon I think you are assuming there is a full version of the newer song...All it was one or two lines song by some female. There was never an actual song played, or released im guessing. there is no real way of knowin who the voice was unless you contacted verizon and pretended to eb interested in using her in a commercial yourself.
-
Yeah.. Probably.
Oh well. Doesn't really matter that much anyway.
